The re-authorisation of Processed Animal Proteins is a risk for animals and for the environment

4 March 2021 -- In a revised position, IFP members express their concerns about the intentions of the Commission to re-authorise the use of processed animal proteins (PAP) coming from Category 3 (containing amongst other meat, bones and blood) in feed materials and compound feed. Such a re-authorisation may put at risk the animal well-being as well as the environment.

IFP members see with great concern the intentions of the Commission to re-authorise the use of processed animal proteins (PAP) coming from Category 3 (containing amongst other meat, bones and blood) in feed materials and compound feed. The relaxations of the rules would create risks and challenges that are not proportionate with their expected benefits.

New labelling requirements for DCP and TCP

 

The Commission Regulation (EU)2017/1017 of 15 June 2017 amending Regulation (EU)68/2013 on the Catalogue of feed materials requires for both DCP and TCP (number 11.3.1, 11.3.4 resp. in the catalogue) that the name is supplemented with “from bones” if the DCP / TCP is made from bones instead of mineral rock. These new requirements enter into force as of 11 July.
