Cefic - Sector Group Inorganic Feed Phosphates
Inorganic Feed Phosphates
Scope
Inorganic feed phosphates are a high quality phosphorus source for animal feed. Most inorganic feed phosphates are derived from natural rock phosphate - the rock being chemically treated to make the phosphorus available for animals in the form of quality feed phosphates. The main inorganic feed phosphates are calcium, magnesium, calcium-magnesium, ammonium and sodium phosphates. These phosphates are constant in composition, low in impurities and considered by scientists as the best available source of phosphorus for animals. An adequate supply of inorganic feed phosphates in animal feed is essential for the optimal performance and well-being of animals. Therefore, feed phosphates are widely used in all types of feeds for all animal species.
Mission
Develop a coordinated approach to represent and to defend the interests of inorganic feed phosphate producers, to promote the use, the quality, the bioavailability of inorganic feed phosphates and to follow up trade, scientific research, legislation, technical and environmental issues.
Issues
-
To follow the developments of the White Paper and support the Feed cluster position for having feed materials out of the scope of REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals)
- Development of a scientific with relevant information about inorganic feed phosphates
Main activities
-
To collect and monitor official statistical figures on the Inorganic Feed Phosphates market following the CEFIC statistical rules.
-
To continue to promote the Quality logo and to assess the quality of the Members’ products by a regular control of those products.
- To ensure that the Quality logo is correctly registered in the different countries.
- To notify OLAF and the customs authorities when improper import and nomenclature are used.
-
To perform scientific studies in order to demonstrate the effects of Inorganic Feed Phosphates vs. alternative products.
- To prepare and publish articles on Inorganic Feed Phosphates.
- To further investigate the concept of highly digestible phosphates.
-
To analyse the effect of legislation on the industry, especially in the field of food and feed safety.
Main partnerships
-
Strenghten the coordination with CEFIC Feed Cluster, FEFANA (European Federation of the Animal Feed Additive Manufacturers), FEFAC (European Feed Manufacturers Federation), EMFEMA (International Association of the European Manufacturers of Major, Trace and Specific Feed Mineral Materials) and IFIF (International Feed Industry Federation) to work on common objectives like Codes of Good Practice and to defend the position of the feed industry
-
To investigate the way to develop a standard for chemical analytical methods for inorganic feed phosphates with the CEN (The European Committee for Standardization)
